Right after Mr. Trung No, Bombardier Marketing and Communication Director, made a presentation for an Atlasjet-Bombardier press conference held on June 8, 2006 at the Airex Fair, Mr. Tuncay Doganer, Vice President of the Board of Directors of Atlasjet, stressed on why they decided on the model CRJ 900 and what problems the aviation sector faced. “If we put an emphasis on the process of Bombardier’s progress in time, and why we have chosen Bombardier, we have to say that we have definitely decided on the right airplane in the time of crisis. While you can land and take-off with any type of airplanes in domestic flights and in western countries, there are some other airports that you can not land and take off with these types of airplanes. Therefore, the airplanes that can land at these airports are very important and also it’s necessary to cooperate with a brand that has been tested and its reliability proven in order to be powerful and reliable. We aimed at a 90 passenger capacity, wide seating areas and to be economical price-wise. Also the plane should be able to take-off and land at every airport of Anatolia and should be easy to rotate on the ground without depending on much equipment. Runways in the Southeast are short and narrow, and high hills are surrounded by mountains. Most important of all, when we started the flights, one gallon of oil was USD 29, now it’s going up towards USD 75. However, this is not only Turkey’s but also the world’s problem. During the decision-making process of our decision when we felt that the airplane we were going to choose should carry more passengers with less fuel compared to its competitors, eliminate the risk of breakdown, establish the latest technology and be tested before; we selected the CRJ 900 series of Bombardier. We brought 3 Bombardier CRJ 900s out of 5, 2 of them optional, at the same time and started our flights. As soon as we started flights with the CRJ 900s, the prices drew back 20% in domestic lines. Even though 16% of this is claimed to be the results of devaluation, the average is equal to 20%. We do not work with this level of profits. It’s necessary to have the prices adjusted in order to prevent any harm in the sector. Additionally, with the selection of airplane we were focused on solving the problem without it reflecting on our customers by offering the best quality services and launching airplanes with a 90 passenger capacity that is both easily fully booked and economical, instead of those planes that are hard to be fully booked with 180 passenger capacities. In these circumstances, we decided to incorporate CRJ 900s into the fleet of Atlasjet due to its successful interior design, maximum comfort and that that is the most economical airplane in the world. We are planning to increase the number of planes to 10 by the end of 2009.” At the end of Mr. Doganer’s speech, symbolic keys of 3, brand new CRJ 900s were handed over to Mr. Tuncay Doganer by the senior management of Bombardier.
